What is a Ganglion Cyst?
A Ganglion Cyst is a type of noncancerous tumor that develops on the tendons or joints of your wrists and hands.They are round or oval and filled with a jellylike liquid. They can be painful if they press on a nerve or if they limit motion.

What Causes A Ganglion Cyst?
Ganglion cysts can be caused by the following:
- Gender and Age – they are most common in women between the ages of 20 and 40
- Osteoarthritis
- Joint or tendon injury in the past
Ganglion Cyst Symptoms
Symptoms of a Ganglion Cyst may include:
- Located on the joints of your wrist or hand
- Round or oval shape
- Measure less than an inch in diameter
- Usually painless but if the cyst presses on a nerve it can cause pain, tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness

Ganglion Cyst Diagnosis

A physical exam will be conducted and your doctor may order imaging tests — such as X-rays, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) — to rule out other conditions, such as arthritis or a tumor, as well as show any hidden cysts.
Ganglion Cyst Treatment

- Immobilization
- Aspiration
